A Few of My Favorite Things in 2018

Updated: Apr 4, 2020

It's that time of year when everyone across the interwebs is compiling a holiday post. Rather than call it a gift guide or wish list, I'm just stealing right from Oprah (aim high, right?) and calling this "my favorite things".

Don't worry, I'm putting my own spin on it. With my list, there will be no "you get a car!" moment and there is nothing hidden under your seat in the studio audience. Sorry, there is only one Oprah Claus.

So, without further ado, here are some items that would be great to give or receive. This is what I've been loving for the home (mostly) this year.

This is a coffee table book that actually serves as a reference book. You'll come for the pictures and stay for the amazing insight into how Lauren Liess designs homes to convey a style that's natural, soulful and effortless. Not only is this interior design book gorgeous, I find myself referring back to it again and again as I make decisions in my home.

Truth be told, I do not own this item...yet. But I'm loving the style and based on these reviews it's a winner. It is definitely on my list this year.

Paying this much for a koozie may seem insane, but sometimes for gifts we splurge a bit, right? I got this for my husband and it keeps his brewski ridiculously cold. But the design is the really mind blowing part: It works equally well for a can or a bottle. *Boom*

I have purchased several Native Swell pieces for friends and family members in the past and have been extremely impressed with the craftsmanship and creativity behind each gift. This year, it's the La Lune Hex necklace that has caught my eye.

If you know me, you know I'm a sucker for all things green and this herringbone blanket ticks all the boxes. I already own several Living Threads Co. items and have appreciated the global flavor they bring to my home. Living Threads works directly with artisans in places such as Nicaragua, Nepal and Guatemala to create natural, handmade textiles. These high-quality goods help preserve the traditions of communities and empower makers.

When we installed sconces bedside in our master bedroom, I loved the look but quickly realized sitting up each night and stretching up to turn off the lamp was annoying. The Hue bulbs and smart hub combined with the Echo Spot (number 13 on the list) are the dream team that allow me to stay cozy under the covers and ask Alexa to turn the lights on or off so I don't have to.

If you do not follow Molly Mahon on Instagram for her block print designs and glimpses into her process: run, do not walk, to your feed and give her a follow. Her creations are colorful and endearing, but also super adaptable for a traditional home or farmhouse style.

Monogramming makes me think of cuff links or the stationary of a debutante. Nice sheets are the ultimate luxury. Now, combine the two in the form of these monogrammed sheets and you have one fancy-ass gift. From this set, we have the monogrammed pillow cases only (which are no longer available) and they are beautiful. I also love this sheet set from Mark & Graham.

It's hard to deny that food is a solid gift, but the pies from Pie Sisters are exceptional. Each pie looks and tastes as if it was lovingly crafted in a family kitchen. My personal favorites are the Bourbon Chocolate Pecan and the Coconut Cream pies, but the savory pies have also been a huge hit with my family. The Chicken Pot Pie would make holiday entertaining--I see you New Year's Day football watching--a piece of...pie.

We recently upgraded to these memory foam pillows and they have been a game changer for our sleep quality. What's great about these pillows is that they're memory foam but they breathe nicely and don't get super hot. They are also somewhat customizable in that you can remove or add foam to suit your preference.

This thing means serious business. Before purchasing this leaf blower, we had already tried two that were powered by rechargeable batteries. They were good enough for clearing off the front steps or the deck, but this professional-grade leaf blower has made this fall's leaf clean up and collection process a breeze. Yeah, I went there.

I love all of the tabletop linens from Living Threads Co., especially the blue runner on the buffet in my dining room, but I think these napkins are winners because they come in fantastic colors and are super versatile. OK, the ikat napkin and place mat combo is also pretty stunning.

As mentioned above, we've paired this with the Philips Hue bulbs and hub to control the lights in our bedroom and it's been fantastic. Not only do we use the Spot as the clock in our bedroom, it's been great to get our 5 minute news break while getting ready in the morning or ask Alexa about the weather. It is worth noting that the Spot has a screen for playing video, as well as a camera. Probably best to just disable that.
