Planning a Wild Room for a Wild Boy

Updated: Apr 4, 2020

I'll admit, the drivers behind this project were a bit of a stretch. The other evening I impulsively switched all of the contents of the upstairs guest bedroom and my three year old's room for no good reason.

But I did have a lot of smaller, nagging reasons. So, that counts for something, right?

My younger son's first room was cute with a slight outdoors theme. But, honestly, it was a little bit of an afterthought. We used leftover paint from the kitchen for the walls, a floral rug from our first home that never quite matched on the floor and gave him one of the hand-me-down beds that we'll eventually bunk for my older son's room to sleep in.

Switching up rooms also allowed me to shuffle rugs -- selling one on Craigslist to fund my future home decor escapades -- and move the much larger guest bed to a more appropriately sized room.

It was time for a change! And my reasoning was just enough for me to gain some momentum and flawed enough to leave my husband confused. This scenario is my home improvement sweet spot, to be honest.

I had already found a rug, now it was time to tie all the elements together with a plan.

I want this room to be colorful and fun enough for a young child, but also interesting in terms of pattern and natural elements. Our three year old is a wild one, and so is this room.
